❤️ February is Heart Month! ❤️

We take a whole-body approach to osteopathic care, which includes your heart health. From blood pressure checks to recognising when GP follow-up is needed, your safety is always our priority.

The British Heart Foundation is raising awareness about the importance of protecting your heart health this month and this is very much something we’re keen to support. As osteopaths, we look at more than just your muscles, joints and posture – we take a whole body approach. This means your cardiovascular health is an essential part of keeping you safe during treatment.

???? Why might your osteopath ask about your heart health?

Some symptoms linked to heart or circulation issues – such as chest discomfort, breathlessness, dizziness, or swelling – can sometimes overlap with musculoskeletal problems. Asking the right questions helps us understand what’s truly going on and make safe decisions about your care.

???? Why might we check your blood pressure?

Blood pressure gives vital information about how well your cardiovascular system is functioning. Readings that are very high or very low may affect the type of treatment we provide, and in some cases may require you to be reviewed by your GP for further assessment.

???? Why might we check your pulses?

Feeling your pulses helps us understand your circulation and identify any irregularities. Occasionally, this can highlight changes that need follow up outside the clinic.

???? Most importantly:

If anything during your appointment suggests that you need medical review, we will refer you on appropriately – and this often means advising you to contact your GP as your first port of call. Your safety is our highest priority, and prompt referral ensures you get the right care at the right time.
Heart Month is a great reminder that looking after your cardiovascular health supports every part of your wellbeing – including your musculoskeletal health.
