We are very pleased to announce the return of the UCO Clinic to its purpose-built Southwark Bridge Road site following the fire that devastated the building last year.
The return is the result of a huge amount of hard work from the team at the UCO Clinic and their UCO colleagues, and marks almost a year since the UCO Clinic was forced to close with immediate effect when a fire in the building’s underground car park cause extensive damage to the building’s infrastructure.
At the time of the fire the same team worked tirelessly to minimise the disruption to clinic services, relocating the Clinic to the UCO’s nearby site on Borough High Street and resuming face-to-face appointments within just three weeks. The Clinic has been operating from Borough High Street for the past 12 months while repairs to the original site have been completed.
Charles Hunt, Vice Chancellor of the UCO says:
“I am incredibly proud of the UCO and the way that everyone responded. The fire at the clinic site on top of the pandemic has been uniquely challenging but people have put in a huge effort. This means we have been able to continue providing valuable face to face appointments for our patients, and clinical education for our students. I want to say a huge thank you to the UCO community – staff and students, for all that they have done.”
The return to Southwark Bridge Road means that the Clinic will be able to accommodate more patients using 34 treatment rooms, all of which are on the ground floor and accessible – something that our students and staff are also very much looking forward to!
